Genie contemplating whatever she contemplates when it isn't food

A rare moment of peace for Genie (or refueling for the next assault)

Luna on the road

I sent Luna on her way today. She rallied on the prednisone for a few days and then returned to her enfeebled condition, struggling to breathe, acting out of it, uninterested in food. We will miss her.

Luna was very enthusiastic about her new job herding sheep.

Luna learning about sheep

Luna was a powerful agility dog, but very sensitive to changes. I was a very novice handler and had no understanding of her issues - and no idea what to do with her. So she retired.

Lovely Luna. She was an honest working dog and gave me all she could.

Farewell, sweet girl. Enjoy your sheep and groundhogs and freedom over there.

Luna on a mild January day

Luna, 15 years old, has been diagnosed with metastatic (from where?) lung cancer and given a very glum prognosis. She was also given prednisone and it's working its magic, improving her appetite and attitude so we can enjoy some more days together.

“Blizzard of 2009″ and our dogs

December 19th, 2009 Averill No comments

Big snow storm today, 17″ total. It wasn’t easy getting around out there, with the depth of the snow and the wind blowing the falling snow into faces, and the cold (whine whine whine). The dogs, who may all not love the snow, were happy enough to be out and appeared to enjoy the challenge that the conditions offered. I just wanted to be back in the house, warm and dry.

Ready to run, Ms. Genie is enjoying our major snowstorm.
